Exploration Of Photographic Ideas

Task 1: Investigating Ideas and Methods

Select at least 3 photographers and photocopy 1 work by each of the artists. One artist model must use an experimental (manipulation) photographic technique and work outside of your chosen genre. For each artist and artwork analyse their work in accordance to the set guidelines ini your assignment outline.

Task 2: Research into a Creative Technique

Locate and photocopy a minimum of four images that show experimental techniques that you could apply to your own work.Research into these creative techniques and record notes in your workbook explaining how you might go about producing that technique. 

Task 3: Generating Ideas

Complete the Drawing Study Proposal worksheet to develop and generate ideas. Using your chosen genre, produce a series of related photographic drawings (traditional or digital) (aim for around 1 film or the equivalent), which explore and experiment with the techniques, methods and ideas you have researched. Produce two 5x7” work prints of your best images and evaluate noting the links to your artist models. Evaluate your images and discuss further options you could take.

Task 4: Techniques and Media

Take more photographs (aim for around 1 film or the equivalent) that analyse and clarify specific and related ideas that were generated from your proposal and first series of photographs. Aim to produce an even stronger sequence of images that are thematically, pictorially and technically more refined than those in task 2.

Task 5: Practical Investigation – Analysing and Clarifying Ideas

Based on your contact sheets, drawing study proposal and workbook investigations, re-photograph, clarifying and synthesising your ideas  Complete the drawing study by presenting your photographs on an A1 panel and all other documentation in your workbook. The folio should include:

v    Establishing shots

v    Small work prints generating ideas

v    Larger work prints and final prints that show analysis and clarification of ideas
